Internet software maker Spyglass Inc. is broadening its distribution channels to include online sales and is expanding its product line to encompass a three-tiered solution for World Wide Web connectivity from PCs and other devices.
Within the next several weeks, the company will roll out a suite of connectivity products, communications utilities, content filters and performance-enhancing products for Web access, Spyglass officials said today.
At the same time, the company will establish additional direct and indirect sales channels and will add new OEMs, including outsourcing services provider UniDirect Corp., to its partner list, the officials said.
The new distribution organization, known as Spyglass Direct, will handle all orders for shrink-wrapped Spyglass software. Products can also be downloaded from www.surfwatch.com through Spyglass Direct, they said.
Spyglass' new Web products suite will include Internet Connectivity products such as the Mosaic group of desktop and remote Web browsers; Internet Infrastructure products such as the SurfWatch ProServer, for content filtering and data caching; and Internet Applications software including the WebNotes E-mail and conferencing products.
Pricing for the suite was not announced.
Also today, the company began shipping SurfWatch ProServer, a proxy server which features content filtering software and caching capabilities for improving network performance. The product is priced at $1,495 through 1996 and will be $1,995 as of Jan. 1, 1997.
