Compaq shuffles portables division execs
By Lisa DiCarlo

Compaq Computer Corp.'s portables division this month will appoint two executives to posts within the PC Products Group.

Ted Clark will assume the newly created post of vice president of portables marketing, and Lewis Schrock will be named to Clark's former post as director of portables marketing, Compaq officials said Tuesday.

Clark will report to Mike Winkler, senior vice president and group general manager of the PC Products Group. Schrock will report to Clark, officials said.

Houston-based Compaq has been trying to regain lost ground in portables since it tumbled from market leader status in 1994 to its current standing as number three in the U.S. market.

In an effort to add some fire to the division, Compaq last year hired Winkler away from notebook leader Toshiba America Information Systems Inc. Winkler, however, was made head of the PC Products Group earlier this year during a reorganization.

Winkler is now responsible for the development, marketing and sale of desktop and notebook PCs and PC options.
