Dun & Bradstreet, Lycos deliver online business directory
By Maria Seminerio

Investment giant Dun & Bradstreet has teamed up with search engine developer Lycos Inc. to form an online directory of 60,000 U.S. businesses, the companies announced today.

CompaniesOnline, accessible at www.companiesonline.com, includes information on public and private companies. It will be supported by banner advertising and will feature company-supplied marketing information, detailed background data, and links to the businesses' World Wide Web sites.

Users will be able to search for specific firms or business types, and they also can search by geographic location, company size or stock ticker symbol.

Dun & Bradstreet is planning a direct-mail marketing campaign in support of the directory starting in January, company officials said.

Lycos can be reached at www.lycos.com/. Dun & Bradstreet, a unit of the Dun & Bradstreet Corp., based in Murray Hill, N.J., is at www.dnb.com/.
