Hayes to demo low-cost cable modem
By Scott Berinato

Hayes Microcomputer Products Inc. next week will demonstrate its less-than-$200 cable modem at the Western Cable Show in Anaheim, Calif.

Slated to ship in the first fiscal quarter of 1997, the ISA-based Ultra Cable System will transfer data at 5M bps downstream with analog return speeds. It will work in basic cable, wireless cable and satellite cable environments, said officials with the Norcross, Ga., company.

Product trials are expected to begin this month. Company officials said applications, in addition to high-speed Internet access, include distance learning and home office use.
