Cisco Systems Inc. plans to announce next week that it will bundle Sybase Inc.'s SQL Anywhere desktop database with its network management applications on Unix and NT platforms beginning next month, Sybase and Cisco officials said.
SQL Anywhere will be the exclusive database running with Cisco's network management applications, the officials said.
SQL Anywhere is Sybase's small footprint desktop DBMS targeted at individual users, mobile users and networked workgroups.
Sybase has succeeded in getting SQL Anywhere embedded with a good number of products, and that expands the sales channel for the database, said Dan Kusnetzky, an analyst at International Data Corp., in Framingham, Mass.
"The product has a very small footprint in terms of memory and system requirements, and at the same time it is relatively full-featured, so it definitely makes sense for Cisco to enhance their network management applications with SQL Anywhere," Kusnetzky said.
