Lucent wins $400M PCS contract from General Wireless

  Lucent Technologies Inc. announced today it has received a five-year, $400 million contract to supply infrastructure equipment and build a personal communications services network for General Wireless Inc.

General Wireless, of Dallas, said the contract includes $300 million in financing from Lucent to cover the initial cost of construction and equipment needed to increase network capacity.

Lucent, based in Warren, N.J., will engineer and build Code Division Multiple Access PCS networks in General Wireless' Atlanta, Miami, San Francisco and Sacramento, Calif., markets.

The networks will be built with Lucent minicell equipment, 5ESS(R)-2000 switches, transmission equipment and power systems.
