The Acer Group has signed a deal with 3Com Corp. to integrate 3Com's line of networking products into Acer PCs.
The two companies today announced plans to share information about markets and technologies and to create joint marketing and distribution programs in all the Acer Regional Business Units.
The first products available through the alliance will be Acer PCs with 3Com network interface cards pre-installed.
"We see tremendous growth at the edge of the network where users connect, and our alliance with Acer will enable us to reach many more users with a powerful networked PC solution," said 3Com Executive Vice President Doug Spreng in a release.
The companies did not estimate the financial value of the deal. The Acer Group had combined revenues of $5.8 billion in 1995 through its international subsidiaries including Acer Netxus Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary that works in the intranet and WAN arenas.
Separately, 3Com on Wednesday announced a deal with Dell Computer Corp. to bundle 3Com's OfficeConnect 8TPC Hub with Dell's PowerEdge 2100 server, starting at $3,948.
